Appearance: Braska is a man of average height with blue eyes and brown hair (I’m pretty sure it’s brown as, in Yuna’s case, blue or silver + blond probably doesn’t equal brown). His face is kind, but a little sad and his complexion is somewhat pale.

Braska wears a robe comprised of three different colors of fabric (red, a darker red, and maroon, each with a white trim) layered upon one another. The robe covers most of his body, touching the ground, with the sleeves usually completely hiding his hands. Over the robe is a silver-colored breastplate with black, circular designs. He wears a headdress with predominantly blue colors, the majority of it (which goes over the top of his head and ends in a high collar resembling a scarf around his neck) a dark blue, with strips of pale blue fabric hanging to the sides. Holding the pale blue fabric is a silver decorative ring with a blue gem in its center and a long metal strip arching up from behind it to the middle of Braska’s back.


Personality: Braska is a kind, lighthearted, optimistic fellow who tries to see humor in most things. He’s willing to give most people a chance, is very slow to anger, and often will go out of his way to help people. Braska is more concerned with the happiness of others around him than himself, often hiding his own feelings behind a smile even before he became a summoner. Though he tries not to show it, he carries quite a bit of guilt from his pilgrimage, particularly over Jecht’s fate and leaving Yuna behind to grow up without him.


Abilities/Weaponry: Braska is a talented mage, having mastered the majority of White Magic and Black Magic spells. However, he never had the time to learn the three most powerful spells of the two magic divisions: Flare, Holy, and Ultima.

He wields a staff about a foot taller than he is, with an elaborate design at the end, and has basic knowledge of how to use it in combat.


Weaknesses: Braska is very impulsive, often deciding to do things at a moment’s notice and occasionally forgetting to tell others of his new plans. Added to that, he has a slightly stubborn streak in him which keeps him from straying from the course he’s chosen. These, while being a bit harmful on their own, make a terrible combo.

Because he hardly ever shows what he really feels, Braska tends to bottle up his pain until it reaches the breaking point. He has a similar response to physical pain, often hiding the true extent of his injuries so others won’t worry over him.

Braska relies almost fully on his magic in battle. As such, most of his energies are focused towards his magical abilities. Though he knows how to use his staff to fight, he doesn’t have much strength behind it, leaving him almost completely defenseless should he run out of mana. Similarly, he doesn’t have much physical stamina, and his speed is greatly impeded by the length and heaviness of his robes.


History: Braska was a priest of Yevon in Bevelle when he went to try and convert some of the Al Bhed people. Instead, he ended up falling in love with the sister of Cid, the leader of the Al Bhed. Eventually the two married and had a daughter, Yuna. The marriage made him an outcast, and, to a point, he distanced himself from the church. A few years later, Braska’s wife was killed when Sin attacked her ship.

When Yuna was seven, Braska finally finished his training as a summoner. A Warrior Monk, Auron, who had fallen from Yevon’s graces for refusing the hand of one of the priests’ daughter, became Braska’s guardian. Wanting to avenge his wife’s death, make the world a safe place for Yuna to grow up in, and, perhaps, to get back at Yevon, the two were ready to set out.

Before they could leave, however, Braska heard a rumor about a man in one of Bevelle’s prisons who claimed he was from Zanarkand. This was a near impossible claim, as the city had been in ruins for a thousand years. Curious, Braska went to see the man on a whim and, after a few seconds of speaking with him, decided to make the man, Jecht, his guardian. Auron protested this, as Jecht had a drinking problem and wasn’t the most polite person in the world, but was overridden.

The three men continued through Braska’s pilgrimage, becoming close friends. The closer they got to the end of their journey, however, the more Auron—who was the youngest of the three—began to have his reservations. It was at the end of their journey, at the ruins of Zanarkand, that Auron completely vocalized his concerns, but Braska’s mind was already made up.

When the truth came out about the Final Aeon—that a guardian needed to sacrifice themselves to become its Fayth—Jecht volunteered, having come to the conclusion that he would never be able to get back to the Zanarkand he knew. Braska used the Final Aeon against Sin and died, later learning that Jecht, because of his decision to become the Final Aeon, had become the next Sin.

Ten years later, Braska was reunited with Jecht and Auron on the Farplane after Yuna’s pilgrimage had finished and Sin was defeated once and for all. The reunion was cut short, however, when Braska found himself in Paixao in a brilliant flash of light.
